I LOVE "Dancing With the Stars". We have an Australian series - I even stopped going to bookclub because it interferred with my watching. Sitting down at 10 o'clock and watching a dodgy tape is not the same as watching it live.

Okay, please enlighten me — I'm not familiar with it. Of course, I don't typically watch episode TV either. When TC isn't home, I never even have the TV on.

I'm not a big TV fan either, Larry, but I LOVE this show. They take several celebrities and pair them with championship ballroom dancers. Each week, they do 2 dances and the celebs have to do them accurately. They get points (30 is the highest), plus viewers can call in and vote for their favoite couple. The next night, (it airs on 2 consecutive nights), the couple with the lowest points gets kicked off the show. It's pretty addictive, especially if you love dancing (and I do!!) This season is igniting some controversy because Paul McCartney's estranged wife, Heather Mills, is one of the contestants. People don't seem to be happy about that. One guy wrote into the TV Guide and said he won't watch this season because of her.

I just saw a feature about Heather Mills - I would be suprised if she lasts beyond the first week. The public like nice people (not money grubbing gold-diggers like her). Australia's DWTS has been going for about a month. The first to go was a footballer who had been given something like a two year suspension for doing drugs. Are they insane? What would make them think that the public want's to see someone like him do well on the show. Now I've had my rant - The End.

Based on what I've been reading on this and other message boards, Heather Mills must be the most hated woman on the planet right now. Actually, I didn't think she was all that likeable even when she was married to Paul.

I'm genuinely confused about the Heather Mills situation....WHY is she so disliked? (keep in mind, I don't care one way or the other about her) She seems to do good charity work for animal rights and banning land mines. Is she disliked because of her separation from Paul? I remember reading that he was the one who didn't want her to sign a pre-nup so IMO he's equally to blame for that part of the problem. But what else has she done to make people dislike her so much??

Kimmer, I'm not sure, but I think the dislike comes from the idea that she is a golddigger and that she didn't really love Paul.

My mom was very disappointed when he married her. She wasn't upset that he got remarried, but she said that she thought that after being married to Linda for so many years, that he'd choose someone closer to his own age.

Paul McCartney is such a legendary icon in the rock and roll world that I can't imagine that the public would ever accept any woman as his wife.

I heard that the trouble in Paul's marriage to Heather Mills started when he made a Freudian slip, it was very silly really. Apparently what he meant to say was "Please pass me my plectrum darling" but what he actually said was "Why don't you just get out of my life, you demented harpy"

but what he actually said was "Why don't you just get out of my life, you demented harpy" That'll do it every time! Jeff, what's "plectrum?"

That'll do it every time! Jeff, what's "plectrum?" A plectrum is a little item, often plastic, which is used for playing a guitar.

Oh, thanks, Jeff. I thought it was either edible kelp, some sort of medical device. ("Nurse, hand me the plectrum please?") or perhaps one of those uniquely British food items, like Bovril.

That would have to be the funniest show out - "The Royale Family" - I have all the episodes on tape although I haven't watched it for a while. All the characters are extremely funny .

The Royle Family is one of those comedy series where every character fits perfectly into the programme. It's also one of those comedies where all the actors are perfect for their roles, it's almost impossible to think of any other actors being in any of those roles.

I'll have to see if they run that series on BBC America.

There was one episode where they were all talking about their favourite quiz programmes on television and I was suddenly calling out "I like Catchphrase too" - in response to Jim Royale. (How embarassing!!!!).

That's an excellent point Midge, and quite surreal. It reminds me of a televised pro-celebrity golf tournament. Lee Trevino was paired with Gerald Harper, we all know about Lee Trevino but I should explain that Harper was an actor with an image of being very smooth and sophisticated, quite the man about town. As they drove off from one of the tees Harper gave his ball a vicious hook straight into the crowd, full of concern he said "OH NO, that's terrible, I hope that I haven't hurt anyone" The ever wise-cracking Trevino called out gleefully "Only your pride"
