CBS has a new fall entry into the television series system this year. The show is called "Elementary" and is an update on Sherlock Holmes. Moving him from England to New York City, and starring Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes, and Lucy Liu as Watson, with actor Aidan Quinn along for the ride.
Show should make its season debut sometime in September. If you watch any CBS shows, you will probably have already seen a commercial for this show. Looks pretty good, and I will give it a look for a couple of weeks.

It's hard for me to picture anyone but Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. However Mr. Rathbone has been deceased for 45 years, so maybe it's time for some new blood, ya think?

I don't think I can stomach Lucy Lui as Watson. If you want to watch an updated version of Holmes you should watch the BBC show Sherlock. It's not only a terrific version of Sherlock Holmes but one of the best TV shows to come out in the last ten years.

Thanks for the recommendation, Kevin. I like to think that I'm open-minded, but an Asian woman as Watson? That's just so ... wrong. What's next, Halle Berry as James Bond?

Well, after three weeks of watching "Elementary" I have officially given up on this show. The dialogue is poorly written, and they fail miserably at any attempt in humor in the show.
CBS is looking closely at the ratings, and the show, according to Nielsen is slipping quickly out of the Top 50 shows on television. I don't see "Elementary" making it past their first 13 episodes.
Their premise was good, but the acting, writing and direction are abyssmal.

I never saw any of the episodes, but I'll take your word for it that they were "abysmal." The casting alone sounded really wrong. But then I am a purist. I can't imagine anyone but Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes or anyone but Sean Connery as James Bond, for that matter. Sometimes it's best to leave a classic alone rather than try to update it.
