Hm. If I wanted to get a good picture of events, I would first read his biography, then hers, and finally a couple of biographies written by historians who have taken all the available evidence and analyzed it.
That's what I usually do when I'm interested in a person's life. Because the truth is important. And I'm a bit obsessive.

Hedvig, you're not "obsessive." You are a thorough, meticulous and objective, as all good researchers should be. You'd make a good biographer!

I did read several bios (plus Chaplin's autobiography) and, if I had to choose, I'd side with Lita on this one!

Sometimes it doesn't work out the way you'd think. My father's second marriage was to a woman twenty years younger; but she was quite a character and she ended up bossing HIM. He seemed to like it, though. They had their ups and downs they divorced and he remarried, but they eventually reconciled after his third divorce and were still together 26 years later when he died. Wow!! I think that's an eception to the rule tho. I've never seen it happen. As long as someone's happy, that's what should matter.

I'm totally lost....a "problem" with what? If this is referring to my comment about siding with Lita, I just meant that, after reading the many books I have read about Chaplin, I do tend to believe Lita's story. But, that's just my opinion! Hedvig, I hope you don't think I was being critical of you (I'm referring to your comment about calling yourself a hypocrite), I was just making a generalized statement of my opinion on the subject. : :

Oh no, I didn't think so at all. I was just realizing, "hey, I haven't actually read that book, maybe I ought to."
