Love research. Don't know if this helps. Found two places. E-mailed Elmer D.(Gladys's son). It came back undelivered. Gladys was married. To Grady Dockery & they had three children. You can read for yourself. I've saved the pages, just in case. I don't link pages, well. I'm glad to find out alittle more about her, myself. Other than a list of her movies. Still working on her grave site. So,far......... Our library doesn't have any thing,so far. Thought they would. One more thing, they suggested to try. Check on it,get back to you guys,on that one. Gladys.............where are you? familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/o/c/Elmer-G-Dockery/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jhb40/7263.htm

More info. Gladys's parents, were Peter & Cathrine Opelia. They raised seven children,on a farm. Found her sister's obit. She passed away,June 21,2006. Gladys's father,Peter was born Oct.26,1893-died 1962. In Todd County,MN. Lucille, her sister, was born in 1918-died this June. If Gladys's middle name is ANN,then I've found her. I just need to comfirm it. Her son may be the KEY. I have pages saved, post them later if this all works out. Her birth & death, the cementary. WHY DID HOLLYWOOD FORGET THIS LADY? THEY REMEMBERED GISH,PICKFORD,ETC. I THINK THAT'S A SHAME. TO HAVE HER MOVIES,BUT NOT HER HISTORY. LET US KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT,IF YOU CALL. PLEASE........... I did e-mail someone else,to hopefully confirm the middle name. Let you know,if I hear back from them. Figure, her son would be the best person,to get input. Don't you? REALLY EXCITED TO SEE HOW THIS ALL,TURNS OUT. Here's her sister's obit. Public Notices -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, June 21, 2006 Obituary Notices for the Week of June 21, 2006 Lucille Opelia Funeral services for Lucille Frances Opelia, 87, were held on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville with Father John Caskey and Father Eugene Meemken officiating. Lucille passed away on June 13. Lucille was born on December 11, 1918 at her parent's home in Iona Township (near Browerville). She was the oldest of seven children born to Peter and Catherine Opelia. Lucille (Lu) grew up on her parent's farm, where she helped with chores and watched over her younger brother and sisters. After graduating from Browerville High School at the age of 17, she moved to St. Cloud and attended the St. Cloud Business College. After college, Lu worked in secretarial or waitress positions for several years in both Minneapolis and California before finally settling in Las Vegas where she worked for many years as a waitress and cashier. She met many interesting and famous people there and loved to tell stories of her many experiences. Two of her favorites were about her visit and dance with Elvis Presley and her dance with Hubert Humphrey. In her early twenties, Lu suffered from the first signs of Multiple Sclerosis. The illness went into remission for several years, but inevitably returned and began its gradual debilitating damage to her body. At the age of 63, Lu's deteriorating health forced her to quit working. She then returned to Minnesota where, for many years, she lived independently in an apartment in downtown Minneapolis. During those years, Lu loved to get out on her "Amigo" and go shopping or go out to eat at nearby establishments. One of her favorites was the Nankin, a restaurant in downtown, where she would often take visiting friends and relatives. She also greatly enjoyed going back to the Browerville area for family celebrations and get-togethers. Despite her physical handicap, Lu rarely resorted to bitterness or self-pity. She stayed mentally alert, informed and busy. She not only remembered the names and birth dates of every one of her nieces and nephews, but also little details about their lives. Several years ago, Lu moved into Augustana Nursing Home in Minneapolis and for the last couple of years was completely disabled not even able to get out of or into her bed without the assistance of a Hoyer Lift. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Gladys Egan. Lucille is survived by four sisters, Tillie Vanderbosch of Rochester, Esther Gruidl of Minneapolis, Elsie Dreher of Long Prairie and Bernie Baker of Clarissa; brother, Lawrence Opelia of Browerville; and 40 nieces and nephews; and 16 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Memorials received will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Interment was held at Christ the King Cemetery, Browerville. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good work liz ... I hope you've found her at last ... And Kimmer I saw what you posted too ...
Gladys Egan seems lost in history ... Her association with D.W. Griffith and "The Adventures Of Dollie" are all I really ever knew about her ... I've never seen her pictured on any old songsheets or anything ...
Larry, Didn't you once say Gladys had a sister about her same age who also made early film appearances ? Or is that not right ? There was some other research about her and Olive Thomas I think posted at GAOH ... Under Great Directors go to D.W. Griffith ...

Gladys's father,Peter was born Oct.26,1893-died 1962. In Todd County,MN. Are you sure this would be our little Gladys Egan, then? In The Adventures of Dollie (1908), Gladys appeared as though she might have been 6 - 8 years old. This, of course, means she would have been born around 1900 - 1902. If she was born between 1900 - 1902, her father must have been born before 1893.

Here's another bit of discouraging news. Clipped from the obituary: Lucille Opelia Funeral services for Lucille Frances Opelia, 87, were held on Saturday, June 17, 2006 .... AND .... She was the oldest of seven children born to Peter and Catherine Opelia. .... AND .... She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Gladys Egan. - The obituary said she (Lucille) was born in 1918 (ten years after the release of The Adventured of Dollie (1908).
- Lucille was older than Gladys (meaning Gladys was born even later than 1918).
So this Gladys cannot be the same one, unfortunately. Disheartening, isn't it? That's okay; we'll keep up the good work until we find our beloved Gladys, right?! Larry

I was told about this obit in a genealogy site that I have been looking for her in, they thought this was her too. There are plenty of Gladys Egans when you do searches on ancestry.com , but you have to have a paid membership to access them. My membership lapsed 3 years ago and I haven't paid for a new one yet. Regular internet searches pretty much come back to brief photos of her, her name listed in cast lists, posts Larry or myself have made or to the places listed in the first post. Poor Gladys is lost

My mistake,TRULY SORRY. Oh, Hon, don't be sorry! And don't give up either; give it all you got! You've done quite a bit; in fact, you shocked me! I popped in yesterday and saw the thread entitled "Gladys Egan", and I'm thinking Whoa! Cool! What is this?!?! I clicked on it and read it; I never even knew that some of the rest of you were searching too, so this pleased me quite a bit!!!! Thank you Guys, so much, for assisting me with my passion of finding this long lost Sweetheart of the early film days!!!! Larry, I saw a cute pic of her from a film called "A Trap for Santa," have you seen it? No, I have not, but would be extremely anxious to see it if you can supply it!! Thanx a bunch!!!! Larry

Well, earlier this evening, I finally got hold of the Mr Dockery that is first on the list, in Manassas Virginia. He says he is NOT related to our beloved Miss Egan. In fact, he stated that he doesn't know of any Egans. After getting my message on the answering machine last night (and yours too, Liz), he did some checking of his own because he got curious after the two strange telephone calls he'd gotten. He said he did some checking but didn't find anywhere in his family history where there was a connection to the Egan name. I apologized for any inconvenience and thanked him graciously for his time, as I explained our plight to him. He understood and said there was no inconvenience or any problems. Larry

Didn't expect to solve this star legend, just hoping to find a piece to the puzzle. Love researching old movie stars. This has been a challenege, for others too. Gladys? True shame Hollywood forgot her. Nobody should be forgotten. Famous or not. Butterfly MCQueen is another lady, looking for. On one board, she isn't even listed. Sad. Many of you know, from GAOH,I even have a journal of FAMOUS BABY STARS,pictures. Enjoy research. LOVE CLASSIC STARS. That REALLY's fun. Like watching Route 66, on Alton Brown. Dean suggesting looking that up,while visiting our kids. WE DID,JUST FOR FUN. VERY NICE TIME,FOR US. THAT'S WHAT MATTERED. AGAIN, I APLOIGIZE FOR POSTING THIS.

Again, there's no need to apologize! I'm glad you brought the subject up again, because several others have gotten involved in the search for Gladys too!
Thank you, thank you, thank you SO MUCH!!!!
Now I'm not alone in my search for Gladys! I have no idea why this is so important to me, but it just is! The more mysterious it becomes, the more important and passionate I get about it!!!! ;D I WILL FIND HER!!!!!!! ;D
