Bill, I love your entire list! Vaughn Monroe is a special favorite of mine; I love his deep baritone voice. I have his "There, I've Said it Again" and "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow." "Scotch and Soda" by the Kingston Trio; wow, that takes me back. "La Donna e Mobile," the most thrilling version of that aria ever, as far as I am concerned. By the way, that recording is 100 years old this year. "Some Enchanted Evening," one of my favorite R&H songs ever, and no one has ever sung it like Ezio Pinza (who had a long career at the Metropolitan Opera before he joined the original Broadway cast of "South Pacific.") "Boogie Woogie," a classic by the phenomenal Tommy Dorsey band. People remember Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, but Dorsey was just as big in his day. Jimmy Dorsey's "So Rare" is one of the best instrumentals of the 1950's, one I never get tired of listening to. "Don't be Cruel" is probably my favorite Elvis recording. And on and on. Your list is amazing. The only song that I'm not familiar with is "If Tomorrow Comes" by Garth Brooks. If that's just a sample of what's on your playlist, I'd say you have excellent taste. I hope you have some Harry James, too. "I've Heard That Song Before" was used as the theme of the Woody Allen movie Hannah and Her Sisters. I also like "I'm Beginning to See the Light," "Music Makers," "You Made Me Love You" and "I Had the Craziest Dream." They're all on my own CD playlist. But we're getting pretty far off the topic of "Annoying Songs," aren't we?

How about "Wang Chung? Does anyone remember that gem. It went..."everybody have fun tonight...everybody Wang Chung tonight...everybody get down tonight....Everybody Wang Chung tonight!" Recorded by, you guessed it, Wang Chung! Have me a headache

You have great taste! It's what I call "comfort music." Just found a CD-R that for the most part 'stays' in my car. Here is a sample of the playlist: 1. La Donna Mobile - Enrico Caruso 2. Because You're Mine - Mario Lanza 3. Racing With The Moon _ Vaughn Monroe 4. Wheel of Fortune - Kay Starr 5. Don't Be Cruel - Elvis Presley 6. Granada - 101 Strings 7. Come-on-a-My-House - Rosemary Clooney 8. Over There - Enrico Caruso 9. Praise The Lord and Pass the Ammunition - Kay Kyser Orchestra 10. String of Pearls - Glenn Miller Orchestra 11. Because - Mario Lanza 12. Take the "A" Train - Duke Ellington Orchestra 13. Tuxedo Junction - Glenn Miller Orchestra 14. Boogie Woogie - Tommy Dorsey Orchestra 15. So Rare - Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra 16. Ghost Riders in the Sky - Vaughn Monroe 17. Rock and Roll Waltz - Kay Starr 18. If Tomorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks 19. I Want You, I Need You, I Love You - Elvis Presley 20. Black Denim Trousers - The Cheers 21. Dungaree Doll - Eddie Fisher 22. The Loveliest Nigh of the Year - Mario Lanza 23. Green Fields - Brothers Four 24. Scotch and Soda - Kingston Trio 25. Some Enchanted Evening - Ezio Pinza 26. It Had To Be You - Harry Connick Jr. 27. P.S. I Love You - The Hilltoppers 28. The End of the World - Skeeter Davis This is without a doubt one of my favorite CD's for driving down the road. There is such a variety of music there, and it seems to all flow together so nicely. I could write down some of my favorite songs any day of the week, and most of these would always been on the list.

I can't think of very many songs that I don't like. I grew up listening to so much music that I am tolerant of just about anything. Here are a few that I can say that I really don't like and why they annoy me...
1. MMM bop by Hanson, the song has no real lyrics 2. Umbrella by Rhianna, the constant repetition if the word umbrella annoys me. 3. Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins, a lady got me in trouble at my old job with this one & I wasn't the one playing it, she was! 5. Before he Cheats by Carrie Underwood, they need to make a sequel about how she was arrested for vandalism and destruction of private property Wouldn't that be a fun song!

3. Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins, a lady got me in trouble at my old job with this one & I wasn't the one playing it, she was! Gina, there must be a story behind that incident, and I'd love to hear it.

I worked 11 years at a church run daycare. The last year that I was there, the kitchen lady was my worst enemy. I had her only grandson as a student and I didn't let him be a brat and she didn't like it. We had a policy about inappropriate music and was limited on what the children could listen to. Our options were classical, children's & Christian. The kitchen lady didn't like that rule. She played a local country station and turned it up on purpose so that her grandson could hear it.
Honky Tonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins is a song about a lady at a bar with tight jeans and a nice south end, if you know what I mean. The Kitchen lady played this one VERY loud and the kids began to sing it! This was a BIG no-no! I confronted her about it and so did the daycare director. Well, the kids started singing the song to their parents and they went to the church and told them that I was teaching it to the children.
My director tried to put a stop to that little oops, but I was still the one that got the guff from the church.
The same lady was the one that lied and cost me my job in 2006.

Oh, Gina, that kitchen lady sounds like like even more of a horror than her grandson. I am sorry that you had to lose your job because that. You deserve better.

She was a word that isn't allowed at the diner!! I didn't care for the song to begin with. I am a lyrics listner and songs like this are seldom on me favorites list. After that experience, I HATED THAT SONG even more. Lonnie likes it but can't listen to it in the house while I am home.

That's okay, Gina — TC and I both hate that song with a passion too! Yes some lady shaking her south end in my face is not my idea of a great song... Yes maybe God made her that way but she is the one using it in a inappropriate manner. Just because you have a talent or gift doesn't mean you should shake it in everyone's face. Maybe the rest of us don't want to see her booty.... You know what I mean.....

The first time my husband heard "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" a few month's ago, he was puzzled by the lyrics ("What is he saying about Donkey Kong?") and I told him it was the country version of Sir Mixalot's "Baby Got Back" - the latter being a rap song from the 90's about liking girls with big backsides, and that's one of my "annoying song" choices. You can bet I groaned when I bought the "Charlie's Angels" movie soundtrack and there it was (I had forgotten it was in the movie, yet a couple of nicer songs from the movie weren't on the soundtrack at all). I do like most of the other songs so if I'm paying attention I hit fast-forward when that song comes on. P.S. Have you all heard the "studio" version of HTBD (I ain't gonna write that out again, LOL!)? I heard it on the radio once and then my son bought Trace Adkins' "Dangerous Man" CD and it was at the end. The beginning makes me think of the "Sanford & Son" theme song and then it morphs into disco music. My son has gotten so sick of that version that he shuts off his CD player with one song to go and won't even listen to the original version anymore (thank goodness).

I was playing opera once, and my husband asked me, "Why is that guy singing 'Bozo, Bozo'?" What was being sung? I can't think of any operatic piece which could be misheard as "Bozo, Bozo" I could make a very obvious joke here but I shall refrain from so doing.

What, Jeff, you're not making a joke? Are you feeling all right? The aria is "Non Piu Andrai" from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. Figaro (Bryn Terfel) is telling his young friend Cherubino, a recent Army recruit, to stop chasing women in order to do his duty as a soldier. (Cherubino is played by a woman.) The lyrics (in Italian) are: Non piu andrai, farfallone amoroso, Notte e giorno d'intorno girando, Delle belle turbando il riposo, Narcisetto, Andoncino d'amor, Delle belle turbando il riposo, Narcisetto, Andoncino d'amor. (etc.) Here's a clip from YouTube. (The You Tube link doesn't work for me, so I had to post it as an URL. Sorry! ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsZ-6x18e44

The aria is "Non Piu Andrai" from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. OH THAT ONE, yes I know it well, I'm listening to it all the time. I often have to toss a coin to decide whether to listen to that or Joe Dolce's "Shadduppa Your Face" Why is life such a constant dilemma?? Actually I quite liked the performance by Bryn Terfel and I am reasonably familiar with that piece. I saw Bryn Terfel on TV at the weekend, they showed him in the crowd at the Wales v Italy Rugby match. He looks to be rather heavier than he was. I say that he was "In the crowd" actually he was occupying one of the best seats in the stadium and well away from the "hoi-polloi"

I'm glad you enjoyed the clip, Jeff. Even people who are not opera fans are probably familiar with that tune. Bryn looks thinner because that video is about 10 years old. Nice to hear that he is a rugby fan and that he doesn't have to sit in the cheap seats.

Most rap i don't like. I don't like heavy metal, and i don't like country music too much. I have a soft spot for 80s music since i grew up with that except i don't like Whitney Houston's music. I also like some classical music. But, i actually like "My Sharona". I think it has an infectious beat. But, there's so much i'm leaving out. So many bad songs, but so many good songs.

Not a thing! We have some Swiss yodeling records from the 1920's (Al's grandparents were Swiss). I also like that old-fashioned country-western type of yodeling. It's just that I don't think every song needs to be sung like this: AHHHHHHHH- EEEEEE- AHHHHHHHHH Will always love YOOOOOOO-WOOOOOOOO-WOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOO-OOOOOO Will always love YOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO-WOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOO . . . .

I like the song, too, TC. It is Al who dislikes Whitney Houston. What I object to is that her style of singing has now set the standard for all female vocalists. No matter what the song is, it is sung in that gospel shouting style a la Whitney. I'm just tired of every singer doing that. It's become a cliche.

Whitney Houston i guess, to me, it sounds like she is screaming and straining her voice instead of just singing in her songs. So, it's hard for me to listen. But, this is just my opinion. Also, yes, i find her music unimaginative and uncreative where all her songs seem to sound mostly the same or boring. But, everyone has different taste.

I think that most of todays music is annoying. We mostly listen to country or oldies at our house. My son rides the school bus, and last year he came home singing "My Hump" by Fergie. Ever hear that one? He picked that one up on the bus and came home and taught it to his sister. She was running around the house singing about her "lovely lady lumps, in the back and in the front." What lumps??? She's 4! I put a stop to that real quick. That is my all time least favorite song. But if you hear it, you catch yourself singing along.

It must be witchcraft or something. I don't like those songs particularly, but since I mostly manage to avoid the radio, I don't have to hear them a lot. That way, when I do hear them I can laugh at them for their bizarrness and then move on.
