by Zelda Cini and Bob Crane
This is a great book for those who love the good old days of Hollywood. It has some fabulous pictures of old hangouts and the stars of the early days. I definitely recommend it!

This sounds like one that would interest me. I'm not sure, but I think I've heard of Bob Crane before, too.

Is that a new book, Kimmer? If so, I can guarantee you that that Bob Crane didn't write it!

Last year I read "Auto Focus: The Murder of Bob Crane".(He is the chap from "Hogan's Heroes"). He was such an unsavoury character (one of my mother's expressions) that by the end of the book I didn't care who killed him.

It sounds harsh, but I know what you mean, Diane. He was no choir boy.

When I posted this, I wondered if I should've mentioned it....I guess I should have....this isn't the "Hogan's Heroes" Bob Crane. This guy is (was??) a Hollywood realtor. I think the book is from 1990 (I don't have it in front of me right now), the other Bob Crane was murdered in 1978.

In the book I read it was obvious who killed him but the case was kept open for about 15 years - one detective wouldn't give up. I thought there are so many innocent people murdered that are in the wrong place at the wrong time and they are forgotten about. The life that Bob Crane lived - it could have been anybody. Sorry if I sound uncharitable.

I don't think you're uncharitable, Diane. It's the truth. If Bob Crane hadn't been a celebrity, we would never have heard of the case. It would be at least some consolation if we could say that because it was a high-profile homicide, the killer was caught. The sad fact is that murderers do go free no matter what.

Okay, someone please enlighten me here. I'm a little in the dark about this subject matter. It may be a high-profile case, but it's one that I've apparently paid no heed to. I never really followed Bob Crane and his apparent shenanigans, so could someone drop a little bit of info for me please? :nervous:

Bob Crane was involved in some pretty kinky stuff. Let's just say he was no Boy Scout and leave it at that.

Bob Crane was involved in some pretty kinky stuff. It sounds as if he could have been on that Monty Python TV Creation which was called "Blackmail" "If you do not come up with the £5,000 then we will reveal the precise nature of your habits, the name of all those concerned, and the shop from where you bought the equipment"

Actually, I just checked--it's currently being redone, I wonder if his son is still in charge of it? I found it via a friend on another board, I was amazed at the content.... BTW--this thread got totally off topic!

Good catch, Kimmer! How's this: There's also a legend in Hollywood about Carole Landis, who took her own life because she was in love with Rex Harrison, and he wouldn't leave his wife for her.

Thanks, Kimmer. I was going to say, "Now you do one," but that's probably off topic. :devilish: Did you know that the famous "Hollywood" sign on the hillside originally said Hollywoodland? It was put up to advertise a real estate development by that name. This is fact, not a legend.

Actually, I did know that! There's actually a cool pic in this book of that area before the sign was put up...and after!!
