i want Helen Mirren to win for The Queen. best picture is tough as i've only seen one of the nominees (The Queen). it might finally be Marty Scorcese's turn as he's been nominated so many times and never won. so i'll guess The Departed as best movie (altho i suspect Babel might get it....a movie i have no desire to see). for the sympathy vote i'd guess Peter O'Toole for supporting actor. he's been nominated a zillion times and never won in the actor category (he got an Oscar for some other achievement some years ago). so maybe O'Toole will win since he's prolly not gonna make that many more movies. i'd actually like to see Eddie Murphy win as supporting actor. he was so good in Dreamgirls. supporting actress up for grabs altho Jennifer Hudson could bring it off.

I don't get out to the movies very much. We went and saw "Dreamgirls" last month and we all loved it . Jennifer Hudson was such a stand out it would be such a shame if she didn't receive an award. She was the whole show. I really liked Eddie Murphy ( I was the only one of the party that did). I thought again he had a standout part and I liked him. I haven't seen him in many films. Next week I am going with my daughter to see "Notes on a Scandal" - it looks so good and got good reviews as well. I think I would like "The Queen" - I have heard only good things about it.

Diane, I have seen Notes on a Scandal, and it was excellent. Judi Dench gives another standout performance as a needy, manipulative middle-aged schoolteacher who plots to seduce young female teacher at the school. I haven't seen Queen, but I think Dench's performance is Oscar-worthy.

I have only seen "The Queen" (at a film festival where the clothes designer from Ireland was present) and thought it was simply magnificent. I'd love to see Helen Mirren win. I saw Peter O'Toole on TV recently on a morning and he looked like the devil, but still devilish, too. I'm sure he was convincing and good in his film. I'd like to see him honored at some time for something: he's done so many fine films, a couple of which deserved Oscars for him: Becket, Lawrence of Arabia, and Lion in Winter, e.g.

I haven't seen any of the movies so I can't have a meaningful opinion of who should win what. I have heard very good things about The Queen. My reservation about that is that Helen Mirren could win the Oscar because of the novelty value of seeing an actor/actress portraying the reigning monarch rather than winning by having put in the best performance. I'm sure that won't be the case but it is worth considering. I would like to see Judi Dench win but that's pure prejudice on my part as I have such a high opinion of her acting.

Helen Mirren is also getting better with age. she excels at the human emotion that's held within. that was perfect to play the queen. no over the top performance, just a realistic character study of one woman who just happens to be queen of england. i thot her performance was brilliant. i don't know Elizabeth II of course and never will but i believe Helen captured the real essence of Her Majesty brilliantly. as much as i love Judi i'm hoping that Helen grabs the Oscar this time 'round. bon
