I think that one of my favorite motivational movies has got to be:

I saw Lola Rennt, featuring a woman who runs a lot all through the movie, because she has to get money to save her boyfriend from gangsters. It filled me with energy, and the desire to run, so I guess that counts.

Oh yeah! That movie was released here in the US under the title "Run Lola Run" and you are correct about it inspiring someone to run. Also it is a pretty good movie.

Yes, I loved it. It didn't just inspire to run, it made me want to jump up and fix things.

Oh this is going to be so soppy  but when I was in my teens, at that very unsure age, I watched Now Voyager and the transformation of Bette from maiden aunt into beautiful woman was like an epiphany to me. There's no point thinking others look better than me, perhaps taller or more of an hourglass figure, or thinner etc it's what I've got and what I make of it and also the self belief that I do make a difference and can shine. Also the fun that can be had with cosmetics and clothes too

Go girl! It is a much needed message in today's culture. I've never seen the movie, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

VA, I googled that movie, Now Voyager. In all likeliness I have probably seen it. It's an oldie. As a kid, I used to watch the afternoon movie all the time, all sorts of movies from the 40's. Lots of Bette Davis and Claude Rains. The afternoon movie always started out playing the classical piece The Syncopated Clock

Any movie where people are really working hard at fixing things or creating things is motivational to me. I saw a TV-series based on a series of popular books about a girl who helps a poor family, taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning, making everything better. Finally she's adopted by a rich man, and of course she manages to get him to agree to take on all the other children. It's a typical children's story from a certain period, and it really makes you feel bad for not doing more for everyone else, for not being so sensible and hard-working. I can't remember the title of that series at the moment, but I remember it was so effective! Not that the effect lasted very long.

Hedvig, that plot sounds just like a Mary Pickford silent called Sparrows. Was that the name of the book?

He he. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the author had been inspired by Sparrows. It was a Swedish series though. Based on a classic premise.

Looking for a 'feel-good' movie, you should check out THE GREAT DEBATERS with Denzel Washington (him, again). It was great to watch in the theater, and now that it is available on DVD it should be seen by all those who need quick boost in confidence level. A very easy film to watch and enjoy.

I don't know about motivational but feel-good - I would have to go with "The Good Companions" (1932). It's claim to fame is that it was Jessie Matthew's break through movie. I just find the whole film inspiring. It is about 3 strangers who have been the odd ones out all their lives and come together to help manager a group of traveling entertainers - The Dinky Doos. It is a wonderful movie - I always watch it at Christmas for some odd reason and whenever I am down. There is so much suspicion nowadays - in those times people were not afraid of helping their fellow men and wearing their hearts on their sleeves. Of course with Jessie Matthews there are some wonderful songs and of course she dances divinely (she was called "the dancing divinity").

I watched August Rush this weekend. It was enjoyable, albeit predictable. It was a truly nice feel good movie. Robin Williams was in a role I was not used to seeing him in. He plays the role of a villian, a street person who takes advantage of a group of street youth. I really enjoyed it despite its highly predictable ending.

Yes I agree with you on both of these movies. I also love the original CHRISTMAS CAROL, it makes me think of how there are other people out who may be in a worse situation than I am and I want to find ways I could help them. I a specially love Tiny Tim and his big heart.
