Not a fan exactly, but I saw one episode and thought it was a very well-done and enjoyable drama.

Kimmer Larry and I both love just love this show I have every episode they made. Just talked to a friend and he said they have picked it up for three (yes I said three) more seasons.
My fav is Kurt I want him to come back to McKinley that is where he belongs not that preppie school. Larry's fav is Sue Silvester. He loves the way she is sooooooooo nasty and bad.

In our family Herb just loves the show and it leaves me cold. I don't quite know why. Yesterday Herb saw a preview and he came bounding in saying "Glee starts on Monday". Herb doesn't know their names - he just likes them all.

Unlike shows like "Beverly Hills 90210", this show will graduate its class every two years, so we will get to see new people very often.
I am not a regular viewer because I don't like the fact that it isn't really anything more than a soap opera for those who like soap opera, and it has music, which is done very well, but not very realistically.
I can't remember ever going to school and having a orchestra accompany me when I decide to break into a song, or the fact that most of the surrounding people know the song or the choreographed steps.
If they made an MP3 player sound like an MP3 player instead of the this fully room-filling band, then maybe I could put up with the show.
I only watch this occasionally because of Jane Lynch. She is a real hoot when it comes to comedic talent, and I think that without her this show might not make it on its other merits.
Let's just see how a change of characters every two years or so affects the ratings and the quality of the show.
Am I fan, not really, there are so many other better shows on at the same time, I only DVR it once in a while to get my Jane Lynch fix.

I had a friend who LOVED this show and kept telling me I HAD to watch it. I finally gave in and tried it and thought it was ok. I got the 1st season collection from the library and started from the beginning and that got me hooked. Bill, yes, it's unrealistic in some ways, but I overlook it just like I overlook the fact that Elvis could break into song while riding on a motorcyle--where were his back-up singers and band? ;D I think the thing I like the most is that the cast does their own singing, no one is dubbed. That's pretty impressive, they're all quite talented. I enjoy the entire cast, but my faves are "Will" and "Sue."

Bill I love this show just for that reason I don't have to think about any plot or try to figure out anythig. All I have to do is sit back and listen to good music and be entertained. That is why I like this show sooooooooo much. As for longevity the show has already been picked up for three yes three more seasons. I think that is a good sign Glee isn't going any where.
Glee is meant to entertain not to have a purpose of some big plot just normal high school stuff. Have you looked at a high school lately that is all they are just one big soap opera. so I would say the show is right on the money.

TC, all is fine, but this show is billed as a comedy and NOT a musical, and for that reason I am very puzzled. I was in Glee club in High School (some 50 years ago), and even then we didn't care about the latest song that was climbing the charts. Our Glee club was confined to the music room, and we had specific things we had to do each day before we could break off into free-form groups.
I just object to the fact that all the singing is 'perfect' and on-pitch and it seems no matter what song it is, the kids all know the words and their choreographed moves.
I watch this show once in a while but only to get my Jane Lynch fix. Yes it has been renewed for the next three years, but read between the lines. The class will be graduating each year and a new bunch of 'kids' will be in the show.
Again, Tuesday night has so many other 'higher-rated' shows on at the same time, that I find it hard to be able to even watch the show because of my "loyalty" to other shows like "No Ordinary Family", "NCIS", "NCIS Los Angeles" and whatever show is on Food Network at that time.
I have made an effort to try and watch this show as open-minded as I can, but just find it too-unreal as far as the age of the kids, who all look older than their years played in high school, and the sudden 'breaking out into song'. If this was billed as a Musical show, or something other than the anchor show on "Fox's Comedy Tuesday" I probably wouldn't be a touchy about it. If I want a good old-musical I will watch "Grease", "Singing In The Rain", or "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers". "Glee" just is another show to avoid this season and for many seasons to come.

Bill, I do see your point, but I'm with TC on this one, I think we just enjoy it for what it is. As far as the kids knowing all the songs, I'm amazed at how many songs the 5 year old I pick up from school every day knows. She's a regular songbook. I think they're exposed to many songs now due to things like youtube, itunes and others. And, I'm surprised by the musical instruemnts and so on that the schools have now. I graduated 20 years after you and I can't believe how much it's changed since I was in high school. From what I've heard, the show is pretty realistic but I just enjoy it as I do any other musical/comedy.

Bill I teach music and movement to 3, 4, and 5 year olds and they know the words to all the songs of today. Children are exposed to much more music now days then when we grew up. I can walk in to my room and start singing any popular song on the radio and these kids will join and sing more of the words than I can remember.
Now days that is all some of the small kids do, listen to the radio, sing the songs and make up or learn dance moves to the songs they hear. Bill this show may not hold merit for you but in this case you are out voted. The show shows what really goes on in the high schools of today.
No this is not your high school but remember things have changed kids have changed and this is the time of the child so get on the band wagon.
As for the other shows you have mentioned I myself can't sit and watch person after person on get killed, murdered, raped, or commit suicide on every show I watch. All the NCIS shows has to have a death, a murder, rape, or a suicide to have a show. Sorry but that just isn't entertainment to me.

I just remember when I was in Glee Club back in the 50's. We didn't have a full orchestra ready to back us up when we wanted to break into song. We had some really cool acapella groups around the school yard, but not one instrument could be heard.
I want to see them graduate the class every two years, as the producers have promised. The worst thing is having a bunch of twenty-somethings pretending to be high school students.
No worries for the next few weeks, though. "Glee" will NOT be on the schedule because of "American Idol" being on three nights a week for the next few weeks as they trim down the Top 24 to the Top 12.

I am going to jump in here - sounds like fun!! I am not mad keen on "Glee" but I have seen a couple of episodes. As far as singing modern songs - I did see the episode with Gwyneth Paltrow as the substitute teacher and wasn't that one about her introducing the club to modern songs and arrangements. It sounded like they had been doing show tunes and were heartily sick of it. It doesn't sound as though they sing at the drop of a hat. tc I am with you. When Herb sat down to watch "Blue Bloods", I thought to myself, just what the world needs another police show" and he got bored. There are just too many police shows on TV and "Glee" , whatever your feelings about it, at least it is positive and happy and hey I might give it another try - I have talked myself into it!!!

Another thing. I was in a choir (probabley an Australian equivalent to a Glee club) in high school and it was a pretty "straight laced" affair. Mostly we sang old English folk songs - I can remember once we did a "Carousel" medley and suddenly membership had gone through the roof. This was in the late 60s. About a year ago they had a show on TV called "The Battle of the Choirs" and I got the shock of my life. The choirs were fantastic, they were all non professionals and went to choir practise after work. Some of the singers were absolutely amazing and they had never sung before - they were blue collar workers, mothers, business men ect. There was even a young boy (about 18) that blew everyone away with "Bohemian Rhapsody", so I think it is not that far fetched to find people from all walks of life that have voices that make you say "Why haven't they been discovered"

Since I know that I am in the minority here on the "Glee" subject, I will just say one last thing.
Why do the folks at Fox Television bill this show as a Comedy, and not a Musical/Comedy?
My comparisons I think are very fair. I have been a school campuses around Wichita, and talked with some kids, who really like "Glee", and some who really think it 'over-rated'. The ones who like the show, don't care about how old the stars of the show are, just that they sing the Top 40 songs and stay in key.
The ones who don't care about the show, say about the same thing I do. When is the last time you were in school and when you wanted to sing a song, lo and behold, here is a full orchestra backing you up, and all the kids on campus know all the choreography to the particular song.
When I was in Glee Club back in the late 50's, the majority of our singing was done in the classroom and those who did carry it on during the day on campus were basically singing in groups with no accompaniment.
I know this is the 21st Century and people say "use your imagination", but I guess it just bugs me that they have these twenty-somethings trying to pass themselves off as high school kids, and will they ever graduate? Heck, even the Fonz knew when it was time to get out of school.
I will just have to say that I am just not a "Glee" fan, and leave it at that, and will continue to watch what I think is better television. That's what is so cool about the whole thing, everyone has choices and that is what makes us so different and yet on the mostly the same page as our friends with our dislikes and likes.
Jane Lynch is wasted talent on this show, and she would probably be the only reason that I watch it when ever I do.

Bill, I totally see your point and have no problem with it. But, think of it this way--look at the old Mickey and Judy musicals, these were supposedly shows put on by kids in an era just out of the depression and before the start of WWII. They'd want to put on a show to raise money for whatever. Suddenly, they were putting on shows, not just in barn, but an enormous barn the size of a soundstage. The costumes? Clearly not homemade! The choreography? Perfectly in sync! The musicians? Clearly not amateurs! See what I mean? None of these things are supposed to be 100% accurate, they're pure escapism. It's been like that since the beginning of films/TV. I think I'm a fan because I'm also not into cop shows. I can turn on the news to see/hear people getting killed, I don't want to spend time watching it on a TV show, but I'm all in favor of people watching what they want to watch.
