I went shopping today and there were Narnia DVDs all over the place. I didn't pay much attention but I did notice that there were two different boxes so I'm guessing that there is some kind of dual release.

Well, because this film had such hype and rave reviews I decided to buy this film sight unseen. Boy, did I make a mistake. I really thought this film would be as good as Lord of the Rings but it was nothing but a big disappointment. The special effects were OK throughout but I don't think the story does the C.S. Lewis novel justice. The only child actor who was halfway decent was the girl who played Lucy. The others were barely passable. I much prefer the Harry Potter series to this film and I doubt I will invest in any more Narnia films unless they get better but for sure I will rent from now on before buying. Through the whole movie I sat wishing I had put on one of our Abbott and Costello films. I guess I'll give this film to a friend with kids and chalk it up to experience. 2 out of 5 stars.

I'm really surprised you got so little out of it, Kevin; sorry you felt that way.
I felt that the movie was well filmed and edited, although I must confess the best acting talent was that of Tilda Swinton, portraying the evil Witch. Too, I think it had a very good moral. It even had slightly religious overtones, without actually being "religious".
In actuality, I don't particularly care for these types of films (fantasy-adventure etc), but this is one that I thought very highly of!

Well, I actually rather liked this movie. . .I thought it was very faithful to the book (and I read it only a couple of days before I saw the movie). I also liked the atmosphere of the movie. There was one thing they changed which I was glad they changed: In the book, Aslan tells both Lucy and Susan that women shouldn't fight in battles b/c they're "delicate affairs" or something of the sort. In the movie, he only tells Lucy that, and I appreciated that change.

I would like to chime in on this. I watched the movie and am going to buy the extra ten hour version. Being a theater major this kind of thing does peak my inst rest. I can usually find some point to like rather appreciate a film or show. Be it on the Merritt of the script the costumes, special effects, or the actors. there aren't to many movies I dislike. I truly felt Narni was wonderful. I could feel the rolls as they were being played. I loved the special effects. Mostly the animal/man characters. Just think of the hours and hours of work that went in getting the actors ready for filming. Imagine the hours spent in make up and wardrobe. I can because I've been in their shoes. ;D ;D I think to truly appreciate film and theater every one should try out for a least one play (local) of course and experience the magic of making theater happen. It is a truly wonderful experience. ;D ;D ;D

My main quibble with Narnia was the soundtrack, and the Witch's ice-cream cone costume. Other than that I loved it. The girl who played Lucy and the boy who played Edmund were great, and it was wonderful to see these characters get played realistically - Edmund not being a little demon, Lucy not being completely goody-goody.

...Too, I think it had a very good moral. It even had slightly religious overtones, without actually being "religious".... Larry C.S.Lewis actually meant for this book to have a Christian under tone. From what a co-worker was telling me, that was his plan from the start. He was a religious man. I myself thought the movie was very good and that, even though some parts were a little PBS-ish in it's actions (trust me it is BETTER than the PBS one I saw years ago), over all it was a good movie. It had great visuals and a good cast. I loved that Liam Neeson was the voice of Aslan. He is a talented actor and I haven't seen a film that he has done that I didn't like. I also liked Tilda Swinton. She always did play the villain well, be it male or female. My husband & I got this the day it was out for sale. And we saw it opening weekend at the theater.

From what a co-worker was telling me, that was his plan from the start. He was a religious man. Yes, he was a very religious man, as you can see if you read some of his other works like Mere Christianity (I haven't read it yet; I don't want to give that impression. . .). . . as was J.R.R. Tolkien, his friend. They were both members of the Inklings. Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia both have religious undertones. But Larry is right, both Tolkien and Lewis meant their works to have religious undertones without having an overly religious tone and alienating non-religious people.

Brother's definitively getting it for his birthday. I bought Harry Potter for him too. I think we will all enjoy this, and we will be able to convince dad to see it finally; he was prejudiced against Narnia because of the McDonalds advertisements. Well, I don't blame him at all for that. I've grown used to seeing McDonalds as the root to all evil, or at least some of it. That's not the movie's fault though.

Thought it okay, the special effects were not as good as hyped. Loved James McAvoy as Mr Tumnus, his interaction with Lucy was one of the best things about the movie.

Thought it Kay, the special effects were not as good as hyped. Loved James McCoy as Mr Tum nus, his interaction with Lucy was one of the best things about the movie. being in the theater even in college and high school I always loved putting on the beast make-up and the getups like Mr Tumnus. They take like hours and hours to get just right but they look SO good on screen...

I just didn't care for this movie at all. LOVED the book and the story. The movie seemed to be rushed in the interest of time. Did anyone else catch that? There were times when it was like you almost missed a frame or something.

No can't say that I saw that of felt that either. Then having studied theater and t. v. I know what to look for in a movie. I know how to get some form of entertainment from a show.

poor larry, there is always books on tape. ;D Honestly, I have found that you get many of the missing pieces that you sometines need to understand the movie when you read the book. Sometimes it is better to read the book AFTER the movie or you tend to bug the people watching it with you telling them what is wrong or missing.
