This film takes place at the end of WWII....a soldier (Keanu Reeves) returns home to his wife and wants to make plans to start a family. She, on the other hand, wants him to resume his job as a travelling candy salesman. He agrees to do so for awhile. On his first day back on the job, he keeps running into this young woman. Eventually, they become acquainted and she confides in him that she's returning home to her very strict Latin family (who run a vineyard). She's returning in disgrace, she's pregnant and unmarried. The young man offers to accompany to her home, be introduced as her husband and then abandon her the next morning. After all, they agree that it'd be better for her to be abandoned by a husband than to have to explain an illegitimate child. Well, one thing leads to another.... I don't want to say more, but I HIGHLY recommend this film. It's a great story, it's beautifully photographed (I saw it 2 or 3 times in the theater and there's one scene where the grapes are freezing and eveybody has to wear wings to fan the grapes to prevent the freezing--this scene drew lots of oooohs and ahhhhs from the audience) and is just a nice film. Anthony Quinn plays the young woman's grandfather and he's fabulous in the movie.

![](http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i74/Liz56pa/clouds.jpg) What a GREAT movie. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) One of MY favorites. The whole storyline is good. I pulled this out of my screensavers for romantic movies. Believe it or not, guys like this movie also. At least,my guy. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) Which is a change for him. Can't say enough about this movie,to do it justice. If anyone hasn't seen it,rent it. It's worth it. Good pick,Kimmer. ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)

Thanks for the recommendation, Kimmer!

Now it makes sense. Has Dean ever seen Summer Stock with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly? It's a musical, but it takes place on a farm, and a tractor figures prominently in the plot. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

It was a Communist reworking of the Seven Samurai, The Seven Brave Tractor Drivers.

Sheesh. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) But I can still remember the words of Barry Norman (A famous UK film critic.) "The camera seemed to flick flick flick like an enquiring eye, from Ivan's tortured face to his grandfather's wooden leg standing in the corner. That scene was so fulfilling due to imaginative cutting of the highest order, this, to me, is true cinema" A heartfelt and very sincere tribute from Mr Norman, I'm sure that you will agree.

I finally saw it last week. It's been repeated several times on one of our cable systems, so I've managed to catch the beginning, the middle and the end, not necessarily in that order! ;D
It was a nice, old-fashioned, sentimental story with a retro look and feel to it. I would agree Keanu is a little bit wooden, but it's a minor flaw. Anthony Quinn was excellent, as always, as the family patriarch. The plot was a bit far-fetched for my taste. Since I live near the locale pictured in the film, I couldn't help but smile at the way the wine country was pictured, bathed in a soft, filtered golden light. It doesn't really look like that. It's more likely to be bright and sunny in that region. Also, there may be old family wineries owned by Mexican families, but I've never heard of one. There were many Italian immigrants who have founded wineries there.

Yes, Larry, it was a "walk in the clouds," that's for sure. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Don't worry, TC. Larry was just kidding. He knows better than to abuse his hard-working staff. I'm not afraid of Gladys, either! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) TC, if you like classic romantic movies (the ones they used to call "women's films,") I think you would really enjoy this one. I hope you get to see it sometime.
