With the Academy Award nominations just around the corner, we have a bevy of movies coming to Blu-ray and DVD in the next couple of weeks.
This week it's "Lee Daniels' The Butler" starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey and a slew of Hollywood's who's who. This is a true story about a butler who served over 8 Presidents and these are his own personal memoirs. Very good film, and it will sweep you away in the nostalgia vein. Some unexpected male stars play the different Presidents.
Next week, January 21, we will see the release to Blu-ray and DVD of "Captain Hillips" starring Tom Hanks. Also Chris Hemsworth stars in "Rush", Formula One racing story of Niki Lauda. Both these movies should receive nominations for Best Picture and the stars should get the Best Actor nominations.
In the coming weeks, we will see "Gravity" and Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" released on Blu-ray and DVD, along with several other films.
If you don't have an account with Red Box or with Netflix, this might be the time to get it all hooked up. Almost every movie nominated this year will have already come out or be coming out early this year.
The Academy Awards will be held March 2, 2014,

Thanks for the update, Bill. I would like to see Blue Jasmine because some of it was filmed in my neighborhood. It's still playing here, but only at one theater. I don't buy movies on DVD any more since our local Tower Video closed, but I have a friend with Netflix who sometimes lets me use her account or borrow one of her discs.
