An Australian black and white silent film made in 2007. Now before anyone turns up their noses - the few scenes I've seen look quite authentic and genuinely funny. David Stratton, one of our top film reviewers and a lover of silent films heaped a lot of praise on it although, he thought, at 90 minutes it was too long. The director Rolf de Heer had previously directed "Ten Canoes", another black and white film told in documentary style about aborigine life. The film is set in 1907. Dr. Plonk makes the startling discovery that the world will end in 101 years but the authorities refuse to believe him so he invents a time machine to travel into the future. From what I saw it was part Keystone part Melies and something I would enjoy. Magda Szubanski is our top female comedienne (she was Mrs. Hoggett in "Babe"). She plays Mrs. Plonk and looks like Marie Dressler from "Tillie's Punctured Romance". There is also a great performance by Reg the Dog playing Tiberius, a little dog with a ball fetish.

Thanks for the review, Diane. I would not turn up my nose at black-and-white OR silent! It sounds like an interesting movie.

Diane, this actually sounds like something that I would likely enjoy too! Perhaps it may soon be made available over here in The States. I may have to check Amazon.com for its availability. : ![8D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/insane.png) : And of course, you know Marie Dressler is one of my all-time favorite actresses anyway, so even if it's someone who looks like her, it's bound to be a "plus"! ;D ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
