My wife dragged me kicking and screaming to see this 'chick flick' and I think I ended up liking it more than she did. Scarlett Johansson stars as a recent college graduate with a degree in Anthropolgy, who just wants to experience life a little. When she helps a ittle boy in the park and introduces herself to him "my name is Annie", his mother, stunningly portrayed by Laura Linney, thinks she says "I am a nanny" and offers her a job as the boy's nanny. Annie still lives with her controlling mother so she lies to her about why she is moving to Long Island, and takes the nanny job. Alicia Keys plays her best friend, and Chris Evans is 'Harvard Hottie', and you have to see this movie to understand this joke. While the previews make it look like a knock down comedy, it is far from that. It is more a scathing look at the elite people who hire nannies to raise their kids and then can't understand why the child doesn't know who his or her real mother or father is. Paul Giamatti is Mr. X - Linney is Mrs. X. The film is directed by the team of Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pullini who brought us the fabulous "American Splendor" a few years ago. I will warn you now, take about three boxes of kleelex with you, the tears will flow like rivers in the last half hour of this movie. On my rating scale I will give THE NANNY DIARIES a 4 out of 5 stars. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Great review, Bill! So the wife is right once in a while, eh? ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book, which was just wonderful. Maybe I'll rent this one when it comes out on DVD.

If Laura Linney is in it - I'm there. She is a wonderful contemporary actress who makes most films she appears in really special. Scarlett Johansson is very good as well. She was excellent in "Matchpoint".

A good cast makes all the difference. It can make even a mediocre movie seem better than it is. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I loved the book, but the movie has gotten terrible reviews. That never stops me--I see what I want to see, I don't care what the critics say!
As a former nanny, I should see this....

I never pay attention to the movie critics, anyway! More often than not, they're wrong! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) But on the subject of The Nanny Diaries, I'll try to catch this on DVD before long! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
