My darling wife, Beverly and I went to an early morning show (11 a.m.) today to see this fabulous movie. Directed by Ridley Scott, this film stars Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Armand Assante, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Josh Brolin to just name a few of the big-name stars in this movie. It is based on the true story about the most powerful black man during the Viet Nam era to control the drug trade in most of the north eastern part of the US. Washington plays Frank Lucas, a mild-mannered driver for a well-respected drug lord in Brooklyn, New York. When his mentor dies, and Washington sees the neighborhood going to the dogs and being controlled by various high-pressure gangs, he decides to follow in "Humpy's" footsteps and take over the territory. He arranges to have pure-grade heroin smuggled into the US from Viet Nam in a very unique way, which I won't tell you, because it sort of spoils the whole movie unless you are watching. Russell Crowe plays a young, high-strung beat cop who wants to be something more, and is looking for that one big bust that would give him respect among his peers. This movie will probably score big when it comes to Academy Award nominations time. It runs a little more than 2 and 1/2 hours, but you won't notice it because it involves you so much in the story. I give this film a 5/5 stars. Highly recommended viewing. It is currently playing in a theater near you. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I can't say that the title sounds familiar; I guess I haven't seen any previews or trailers for it on television. It sounds a little intriguing, however.

Sounds like a contradiction, huh? Like Robert DeNiro playing a good guy? ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

In "Training Day" Denzil Washington played a really evil policeman and Ethan Hawke (I think) played the young rookie. That was a pretty good film - a bit violent for my tastes now.
