On this Tuesday morning it is snowing outside. Very lightly but enough to make it hard to see across the street. They say we are going to get a trace to 1" today in parts of Kansas. Ooooppsss! As I just looked up from the computer, the sun is trying to shine down on this wonderful day, that will take care of any snow on the ground or any accumulations.
According to your local weatherman, what is your weather supposed to be like for the next few days?

We are expecting dry, mild weather with a warming trend and highs in the 60s at the coast and as high as 70 inland. Partly cloudy weather is predicted for Saturday.
What are your plans for Valentine's Day, if any?

As a family we are going over to a friend's house for dinner. We are bringing a heart-shaped cake that Traci and Beverly worked on for hours last night.
Daylight Savings Time begins March 10th, Are you excited?

Do you have any fond memories of home-cooked meals from your childhood?

My Aunt Velma used to make the best Chicken & Dumplings ever. Many times I have tried to duplicate that dish and aroma while cooking and have failed miserably. I wish I had gotten her recipe before she passed away. She never wrote anything down, so it would have to be gotten by asking and writing it down. Those were the good ole days.
Let's re-ask this question:
Do you have any fond memories of home-cooked meals from your childhood?

My stepmother's spaghetti was excellent. She was Italian-American, and always had spaghetti as our big Sunday dinner with a salad, garlic bread and rosé jug wine (for the adults). When I was 16, my parents let me have a little wine, but I didn't like it very much. Since then my opinion has changed!
Was there any one turning point in your life when you realized that you were an adult and no longer a child?

I laugh every time I think of this, but it is true. I realized I was grown up the night I was getting dressed to go on my first date in college and my Dad came into the bathroom where I combing my hair, and he said, "We need to teach you how to shave!" So I got my first shave on that night and once a week after that I learned how to shave. Being part Indian, I only have to shave once a week and sometimes I can stretch it to eight or nine days. My running joke is that: "I have been shaving for two years and cut myself both times!!"
Have you ever looked in a yearbook and then tried to look up that person to see how they are doing?

Great shaving story, Bill! I have looked in my yearbook and have often wondered how certain of my classmates were doing. Sometimes I can find information by Googling, and some of my classmates are on Facebook so I can just ask them. If you could magically acquire some special talent that you don't have now, what would it be?

I wish that I could snap my fingers, wiggle my nose, or something and magically all of the packing for our big move would be done. I don't mind unpacking, I just dislike packing very much.
Good question, worth repeating:
If you could magically acquire some special talent that you don't have now, what would it be?

I would like to be able to play a musical instrument well.
Do you ever have dreams with a recurring theme?

Right now my dreams are about a certain moving disaster. I hope that it doesn't come true.
Do you dream in black and white or in color?

Always in color
Have you ever won a sweepstakes, lottery or other type of contest?

You can't win if you don't play. Can't afford to take part in those things.

No, I'm happy where I am, but I sometimes fantasize about what life is like in other places.
Have you seen any of this year's Oscar-nominated movies?

|

Post by dvdjunkie on Mar 11, 2013 9:16:41 GMT -6
Yes. All of them except for "Life of Pi" in those nominated for Oscars, along with "The Master", which never played here in Wichita.
Are you happy with the outcome of the Academy Awards Oscars this year?

I'm neutral because I didn't see the films.
What is the last movie you saw?

Just saw "Oz The Great and Powerful" and I can highly recommend it to those who enjoy "The Wizard of Oz". This movie is a prequel, we saw it in 3-D and I can honestly say it was the most beautifully photographed movie I have seen in years. It starts in black and white and then after Oscar (James Franco) lands in Oz it changes to color. Disney has a big hit on their hands, but I hope they don't try to remake "The Wizard of Oz". There is no one with the talents of those who starred in the 1939 original.
What kind of music do you dislike the most?

I don't care for hip-hop, rap and that sort of thing.
What is your favorite type of music?

It varies from day to day and mood to mood. In my car I have a mixture of country and classic rock. At home you will find me listening to some light jazz, or even some adult contemporary stuff. Hard to say which is my favorite.
Do you own an iReader like a Kindle Fire, Nook, etc.?

No, but everyone I know who has one likes it, so maybe I'll get one someday. I've heard the Kindle is great for reading in bed because the screen is backlit, so the light doesn't disturb your bed partner.
What is the latest electronic toy you have purchased?

As a family we purchased a 60" 3-D HDTV for the new house. It is in the living room, and it came with four sets of 3-D glasses, so we stopped at Walmart and picked up another two sets of glasses because they were on sale. My daughter and son-in-law also picked up two movies, both Disney family films in 3-D, and we are having a lot of fun watching the new television. (I still have my 50" in my 'man-cave'.)
Do you know how to drive a stick shift automobile?
|
|
|
Post by Midge on Mar 22, 2013 17:21:14 GMT -6
Yes, I learned on a stick shift and preferred them to automatics until I married Al and moved to a house located on a scary, steep hill. Then the manual shift because a liability. Al's size 13 feet were too big to manipulate the small pedals in my Honda so he didn't like to drive my car at all; and all the shifting you have to do to go up and down a 20º hill was a real hassle even for me. So I gave up and bought an automatic, but I still think sticks are more fun to drive.
What was your first car like?

Post by dvdjunkie on Mar 25, 2013 9:41:49 GMT -6
My first car was a '49 Ford convertible. The color was God-awful, I called it pea-soup green. I loved that car, and in that time, 1958, it was truly a 'chick magnet'.
Do you remember your first car?

|
|
Post by Midge on Mar 25, 2013 15:41:38 GMT -6
Yes, mine was pea-soup green also, a '66 Volkswagen Beetle with four bashed-in fenders. I called it "The Green Machine." I remember that Ford green color, too. It seemed like every other car was that color in the early 1950s, including our '51 Nash Rambler station wagon.
What was your first job like?

Post by dvdjunkie on Mar 28, 2013 13:49:35 GMT -6
I was a linotype operator for the Los Angeles City School system. All the work I did was at school in our print shop because it was the largest in the city. I was paid $4 an hour, that was huge back in the 50's. I worked after school and on Saturdays. After I graduated I continued to work for another year at the school as a Foreman of the Print Shop. I then went on from there.
Have you ever worked a job that you really liked, but didn't like the people you worked for?

Post by Midge on Mar 28, 2013 18:45:16 GMT -6
Yes, I worked as a medical assistant in a doctor's office. I loved the job and loved working with patients, but one of the doctors didn't like me, so I got fired.
If you could go back and live your life over, what one thing would you do differently?
|
|
|
Post by dvdjunkie on Mar 29, 2013 7:19:54 GMT -6
I would have stayed in the US Army to complete at least my 20-years. Knowing today, what I didn't know then, I would have never been sent to the front lines in Viet Nam, I would have never gotten closer than Japan, if that close. My job classification would have prevented me from any front line duty. Otherwise I think I like the life I have lived so far.
I really like the question so here goes again:
If you could go back and live your life over, what one thing would you do differently?

I would have finished college instead of dropping out and running off to New York City.
If you could live anywhere in the world based on climate alone, where would you live?

Nancy, France would be my choice. The climate is pretty steady year round, and the people there, from what I remember, were absolutely the friendliest in the world.
What is your favorite time of the year, weather-wise?

|
Post by Midge on Mar 30, 2013 17:47:22 GMT -6
I like autumn best because the summer fog goes away, and we usually get pleasant, sunny "Indian Summer" weather.
If you could go back and relive one year of your life, what year would you choose and why?
