1971 is the year. I was off on one of my 'gonna make it big' trips to the State of Virginia, and it all turned out for the worse. (Won't go into details). I missed the birth of my twin daughters because I was stuck in Fort Smith, Arkansas with a broken down car, and Western Union was on strike so I had to wait for the mail to arrive with a check to pay for car repairs. I would really like to forget about that year or just have a mulligan and try it all again, the right way.
Let's try that again:
If you could go back and relive one year of your life, what year would you choose and why?

For purposes of a do-over, I'd say 1967. That was the year I dropped out of college and moved to New York to be near the young man who promised to marry me, but a year and a half later we broke up. I should have stayed in California and finished school.
Is there a talent you don't have that you wish you did have?

Yes. I have had many lessons, and tried on my own, but I want to play guitar so badly. Now my fingers aren't as nimble and they used to be, but I still play a mean "air guitar"!!!
How often do you choose to eat out in a month's time?

Post by Midge on Apr 2, 2013 16:25:55 GMT -6
We generally eat out at least twice a week and sometimes three times. That would be about 10 times a month.

I don't have one, but I will nominate The Old Barn.

Broiled salmon with hollandaise sauce, baked stuffed potato, green beans and chocolate brownie ice cream cake.

Grilled Flat Iron Steak, medium well please; french-cut green beans; twice-baked mashed potatoes; and apple pie.

Getting ready to watch Michigan vs. Louisville for the NCAA Basketball title. Wichita State put a big scare in Louisville Saturday, so I want to see how they handle the full court press of Michigan.
Have you ever ridden a cable car in San Francisco?
|
|
|
Post by Midge on Apr 8, 2013 20:05:26 GMT -6
Yes, but not for a long time. They're separate from the rest of the transit system now so you have to pay a separate fare ($5 each way; no senior discount until after 9 pm) instead of the $2 adult fare for buses and streetcars, and you can't use your transfers any more either. I think it's a huge ripoff. But back in the day when the fare was 15 cents and the cable cars weren't packed with tourists, it used to be fun.
Do you like to visit historic places?

Yes. My favorite so far has been Mount Rushmore, just outside of Rapid City, South Dakota. I can remember the first time I saw this wonderful site, coming around a big slow curve, lined with lots of trees and then there it was in all its glory. It actually looks a lot better the farther away you are, but going to the ampitheater and learning more about how it was done is really interesting.
What was the last historical place you visited?

My dentist's office in downtown San Francisco is in an Art Deco building that is on the National Register of Historic Places. So is the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which I drove across recently (though strangely, the Golden Gate Bridge is not on the list).
Have you had any surprises recently?

Yes, in a way. The other day we received a rebate check from a class action settlement that we didn't even know we were a part of.

Post by Midge on Apr 13, 2013 18:16:38 GMT -6
I don't normally eat lunch, but I'll probably have a little snack to hold me over such as dry roasted almonds or string cheese. We're having chicken pot pie and a salad for dinner.
Have you put away your heavy winter clothes yet?

No!! In Kansas, the weather changes from hour to hour somedays. Like Tuesday past, the day started out with Ice so thick that you had to be bundled up for the cold weather, and then by afternoon you were ready for a short-sleeved shirt. Yesterday (Saturday) the forecasters said it would be a nice balmy day with temperatures in the upper 60's, and the wind blew all day, the temps may have hit the 60 degree mark but it felt like about 30 degrees. I have learned since moving here, take each day as it comes and don't plan anything too far ahead.
With Spring here for most of us, what is the one thing you like to do that you can't do in the Winter?
|
|
|
Post by Midge on Apr 14, 2013 17:52:35 GMT -6
That's a tough question. I can't think of anything because the weather doesn't change a whole lot so you can do most things all year round. So I'll say turn the clocks forward! I like it when it stays light into the evening.
What do you like to do in spring that you can't do in the winter?

Take my grand kids to the park. I really enjoy taking them to the park and watch them burn off all that energy they have. And with all the parks we have in Wichita, it is easy to find one that they like. The one that is across the street from our new house is their favorite, but in the spring it gets pretty crowded.

Have you ever sung in a choir?

Yes. Something I do occasionally today. My standing is very limited, so I am limited to when I can sing in the choir at Church.
Do you remember Candlestick telephone with the rotary dial?
|
|
|
Post by Midge on Apr 18, 2013 15:58:50 GMT -6
No, not personally, but I've seen them in the old movies. Dial telephones were all we had when I was growing up. It's strange to realize that today's children probably wouldn't even know how they work or how to use one.
Have you ever been locked out of your house or car?
|
|
|
Post by dvdjunkie on Apr 19, 2013 15:01:57 GMT -6
Truth be known, YES!!! I was given a key to the new house, and didn't put it on my key ring, and when I realized I couldn't lock the deadbolt I got on my cellphone and called Beverly and told her the situation and we all had a good laugh.
Worse yet, when I was dating Beverly, I was showing off how cool it was to be able to lock my car with a remote, and I forgot to take the keys with me, and the engine was running. Had to call my brother to come rescue me, he was a cop at the time and he had a slim-jim and could get the car unlocked.
Have you ever accidentally dialed your own number on your phone?

Great stories, Bill! Yes, I've done that. When I was a child I did it once out of curiosity to see what would happen.
What was your first pet?

My first pet was mixed breed dog that I named "Mugsy" because he looked like Leo Gorcey of the Bowery Boys!
Have you ever owned a gold fish bowl, or a pond? What kind of fish did you have in it?

Post by Midge on Apr 20, 2013 16:24:17 GMT -6
As a small child I had guppies in a fishbowl. That was my first and last experience with having fish as pets.
